About us.

YGRG was founded by three undergraduates in Morse College. We hope to change the way Yalies engage with politics.

about YGRG

How it started

The Yale Government Relations Group (YGRG) was founded with a simple idea: Yale students should not just learn about politics in class, they should take part in it. Through YGRG, Asher, Ben, and Jonathan hope to redefine the way Yalies engage with the political process.

As a nonpartisan organization, we provide a platform for any student to share and refine their ideas in Washington, driving meaningful change through federal lobbying.

Our long-term goals:

Provide need-based travel subsidies so that cost is never a barrier to joining trips to the Capitol
Build partnerships with Yale alumni to mentor students on careers in policymaking and legislative advocacy
The YGRG Process

How it works

Pitch ideas

Students pitch the federal issues they care about—from education to foreign affairs—and select which ones the group will pursue.

Research & develop proposals

Teams dig into policy research, consult experts, and write polished briefs that outline the bills they hope to advance

Prepare for Washington

Students practice their talking points, schedule meetings with congressional offices, and finalize trip plans.

Travel to D.C.

Members travel to Washington to engage directly with policymakers, gaining hands-on experience in federal advocacy.

Lobby in the Capitol

Teams meet with legislators and staffers to present their proposals, answer questions, and push for concrete policy outcomes.

about YGRG

Frequently
asked questions

Who is eligible to join?

Any Yale College undergraduate in good standing is eligible to join and is welcome to apply to YGRG. We are a nonpartisan organization open to students hoping to make a meaningful impact on federal policy.

How can I apply?

We send out a short Google Form at the beginning of each semester for anyone interested in joining YGRG. The form collects some basic information and gives you space to share why you’d like to get involved.

Do I need experience to participate?

We welcome all students, regardless of prior knowledge, and provide the tools you need to succeed. Every perspective matters, whether you study political science, engineering, theatre, or anything else. Policy influences every aspect of life, from sports to international trade to the food you eat, and YGRG gives you the chance to shape the issues you care about most.
